IMW is excited to announce that Cyndy Fike has joined our team as Program Director! Cyndy began working with IMW when it was a pilot program at Association House of Chicago in 2006 as a part of her graduate practicum placement with Columbia College. After receiving her Master of Arts Management with a focus in Arts in Youth & Community Development from Columbia College, Cyndy moved back to her home state of North Carolina to work with incarcerated teens developing programming that utilizes music in a therapeutic wilderness setting. In 2009, Cyndy returned to Chicago to become a Fellow with MusicianCorps Chicago, a national pilot program of Music National Service. During this time Cyndy also returned to the IMW classroom, teaching at CICS Wrightwood, Bucktown, and Avalon as well as leading our pilot program this Summer with the Jewish Council for Youth Services.

Providing “All Access” to Innovative Music Education!

The Intonation Music Workshop empowers children to become rock stars on every stage in life through innovative music education. Using donated instruments and a unique pop band curriculum, our after-school music program provides kids age 6-17 in Chicago’s under served communities with access to instruction and performance opportunities in a safe and positive environment, sparking for many a life changing sense of accomplishment and belonging. Our students learn to express themselves musically, at the same time developing essential life skills such as cooperation, practice, risk taking, and setting and meeting goals. IMW Instructors work closely with the students as they explore each aspect of the pop band format- drums, bass, guitar, keyboards and vocals- before choosing their niche and forming a band with fellow students. The bands are then mentored through weeks of preparation for a community performance. IMW partners with social service agencies, Chicago Park District locations, Charter Schools, and other organizations in the realization of its mission.

This Summer IMW is providing access to instruments, instruction and performance opportunities for 150 kids at 4 sites throughout the city of Chicago.
