The Intonation Music Workshop is a band based after-school music program whose mission is to provide a safe and positive environment in which young people can learn to express themselves musically, at the same time developing essential life skills and values such as cooperation, practice, risk taking, and setting and meeting goals. IMW partners with social service agencies, Chicago Park District locations, Charter Schools, and other organizations to provide access to musical instruments, instruction, and performance opportunities for Chicago youth aged 6-17, making popular music education available in Chicago neighborhoods where access to arts programming is limited.
The Workshop provides many children their first chance to play a musical instrument and it also gives them an opportunity to set and meet goals, to see a direct correlation between effort and results, and to feel the sense of accomplishment that comes from demonstrating their new skills to an audience of their parents and peers. To assist in the realization of the core mission and its programs, IMW also offer various fee based youth music workshops to all types of organizations.
